Leading High-Performing Teams

Delegate without disappearing, give feedback people can actually use, and coach instead of command.

At B2+ the question is no longer “can you say it?” but “does your English make people better at their jobs?” This module is about the language of leading: handing work over without losing quality, praising in a way that sticks, correcting in a way that doesn’t sting, and asking the coaching questions that make someone think instead of just obey.

Great team leaders sound different. They soften what needs softening — “it might be worth revisiting the numbers” — and are crystal clear where it matters: who owns what, by when. In this module you will learn to hedge like a professional without sounding vague, and to use the small phrasal verbs — hand over, step in, follow up — that make management English sound natural rather than translated.

As always, everything is built around one real theme: a reading to think with, vocabulary and useful language you can reuse the same day, a real podcast by a management coach to train your ear, and a live speaking roleplay with your AI Tutor. Grammar and pronunciation are practised inside these, not in isolation.

🎯 By the end of this module, you will be able to:

delegate a piece of work clearly — outcome, ownership, deadline — without micromanaging;
give positive and corrective feedback that is specific, fair and easy to accept;
use coaching questions to develop people instead of solving everything yourself;
soften or strengthen your message deliberately, using hedging with precision;
run a one-to-one conversation that leaves the other person clearer and more motivated.

🔤 Grammar in this module. Two grammar points power this theme: Hedging & Cautious Language and Advanced Phrasal & Prepositional Verbs. The hedging (“it might be worth…”, “I was wondering if…”) is exactly what makes feedback land softly in the Useful Language, and the phrasal verbs (hand over, take on, follow up, step in) are the natural vocabulary of delegation you will hear all through the podcast. Each has a short explanation and G1–G4 practice.
