Cohesion makes a text flow: linking words signal relationships, while substitution and ellipsis avoid repetition.
Contrast: however, nonetheless, whereas. Result: therefore, thus, consequently. Addition: moreover, in addition, furthermore.
Avoid repeating nouns with one/ones; replace a verb phrase with do so / do it or so.
→ I prefer the red one. / He promised to help, and he did so.
So + auxiliary + subject (positive agreement); Neither/Nor + auxiliary + subject (negative agreement).
→ She passed and so did I. / I cannot go and neither can he.
💡 Tip: Match the auxiliary to the original verb: so did I (past), so can he (modal).
