Explanation — should/could/might

💼 Why it matters at work

Should you ask for help? You might need it. Could you do it alone? These words give advice (should), show what is possible (might), and suggest a choice (could).

should = advice. might = possibility. could = option/suggestion. All + base verb.

1. Form

Modal + base verb (no to, no -s).

You should rest. / It might rain. / You could ask.

2. Meaning

should = it’s a good idea; might = it’s possible (maybe); could = a possible option.

3. At work

Advice: You should check the figures. Possibility: The plan might cost more. Option: You could try again.

⚠️ Watch out

  • No to: should rest, not should to rest.
  • No -s: he might be, not he mights.
