Performance Reviews & Feedback

Giving feedback in a foreign language is twice as hard: you need the right message and the right words.

In this module you will learn to run a performance review in English that motivates instead of deflates — praising specifically, raising concerns without attacking, and agreeing on next steps the employee actually believes in. You will practise the grammar that feedback lives on, and you will face an AI team member who does not always take criticism well.

By the end of this module you will be able to:

  • open a review so the other person talks first;
  • praise with concrete examples instead of vague approval;
  • raise a concern without putting the other person on the defensive;
  • agree an action plan and set a date to review it;
  • write the summary that goes into the file.

Grammar in this module. Past simple vs present perfect (“Last month you missed the deadline” vs “You’ve hit every milestone this quarter”) and the language of advice (you should, why don’t you, it might help to, have you tried…?).
